Widgets I Love

I heard from a few teacher friends that they wanted to know where I got some of my favorite widgets.  I thought this would be a good place to show you where I got some of my favorite widgets.  This also is a great way for me to show you how "Pages" works.  If you have something else you'd like me to show you, don't forget to let me know as these posts are pretty easy to write.

You can adopt a cute animal pet for your blog. I have "Rocky" on my school blog and "Shel Silverfin" on my writing blog. One year I added a bat around Halloween time.  They are fun and my kids loved them.

Another favorite Widget, is Scholastic's Book Wizard, which lets you (and your families) find out what level a book is to make sure it is "Just Right" for a reader.

I have a bookshelf from "Shelfari" where I can put books my class is reading. If you click on it, it gives information about the book as well as a link on how to purchase the book.

I have a widget on my page with a revolving globe to show where your 'hits' are coming from. My class loved this.  One year a student went to Hawaii and checked in on the blog and you could see a little red dot of where she was.  Last year, I had students in India and you could see where they were.  My students LOVED THIS!

Similar to the revolving map, I have a Feedjit widget that shows where readers are coming from and when they checked in. **Please remember that families of your students may not click directly to your blog each week and may read it via their emails.

Finally on my "Summer Suggestions" blog for my students, I put a little aquarium clock because I thought it was cute and it went with the 'beachy' theme.

I have said before that you can spend hours on things like choosing a background and playing with fonts and color layouts (which I will show in the next post).  Finding widgets is the same way.  Just google, widgets for blogs and the possibilities are endless!

GOOD LUCK!
